JCI is currently hiring a Machinist I to work in our Washington, IN location . This position requires the employee to perform duties of a Machinist I as needed to support the Washington, IN facility. Candidate will utilize machine tools like milling machines, grinders, and lathes to create metal parts. Can make small orders or unique items even though they may make substantial amounts of an individual part. Knowledge of the working components of metal and ability with machine tools to fulfill the operations necessary to make machined products to satisfy certain specifications. Will work with computer-controlled programmers to determine the path, rate, and the speed of the machine and to find out how the programmed equipment will perform. May look to blueprints in order to fix broken parts and carry out the same machining operations that were required to produce the original piece


  • Demonstrate safe work practices in accordance with the Johnson Controls Safety Program, OSHA and EPA.

  • Reads and understands simple sketches, CAD drawings, or engineering specifications to perform a sequence of operations with set parameters.

  • Familiar with Quality Control, ISO, and Inspection Procedures.

  • Operates and performs simple set up of various types of conventional or automatic machine tools, such as lathes, grinders, drills, milling machines, bores, and sharpeners in order to fabricate parts.

  • Observes machine operation to verify accuracy of machine settings and to detect malfunctions or out of tolerance machining.

  • Maintains, cleans, and lubricates machine tools and equipment.

  • Completes production documentation such as work orders, parts records, and material usage.

  • Ensures machines are operating at required capacity and that production requirements are met.

    The ideal candidate will have the following: Education/Experience Requires that the employee have at least a H. S. Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. Preferred candidate should have at least 1 - 2 years of experience operating machinery equipment.

    Work Conditions:
    Extended hours and/or overtime may be required based on workload. General work area is in a production environment where moderate levels of noise and/or heat and cold occur. Employees will frequently operate mechanical equipment such as forklifts, overhead cranes, pallet jacks, ladders, etc.

The employee will occasionally be required to physically lift, pull, push or apply force up to 40 lbs. Occasional grasping, bending, stooping, and twisting involved. Periods of squatting, standing, climbing, kneeling and walking are occasionally required. The employee must have constant free mobility of hands, wrists and arms in order to operate hand tools, computer equipment and materials storage equipment. Some physical and mechanical dexterity required.
