Perform detailed research and analysis of global commodity purchases, supply bases and other spend data. Develop detailed, comprehensive, long term global commodity strategies aligned with corporate product and manufacturing strategies. Present these strategies in written form to management for approval. Develop/communicate global implementation plans with dates, deliverables and resource requirements. Develop new supplier qualification plans and supplier elimination exit strategies. Manage and execute commodity strategies, new product introductions or phase in/out of components or changes and follow through to successful completion without interruption of supply or compromise to product quality.
Monitor supplier production and warranty parts per million (PPM) performance and the supplier rating system (SRS). Recommend issuance of corrective action requests (CAR’s) and follow through until acceptable responses with objective evidence are received and validated. Act with a high sense of urgency in correcting supply interruption occurrences. Search for new suppliers, visit their facilities with the appropriate cross functional support and evaluate their potential. Incorporate this information and knowledge into commodity and supply base strategies and plans. Select/recommend new suppliers who are capable of meeting or exceeding appropriate performance objectives.
Review annual spends with the Purchasing Analyst, Subsidiary and Branch Purchasing personnel and a Commodity Manager to develop cost savings projects and priorities. Coordinate with other Sourcing Specialists globally to develop detailed analyses and plans for approved cost savings projects. Generate Crown production part approval system (CPPAS), requirements and incorporate them into formal web based request for quotes (RFQ’s). Develop documented requirements and statements of work to ensure completeness of RFQ’s.
Develop healthy business relationships with suppliers. Keep up to date supplier information in the approved supplier list (ASL) and BAAN. Conduct business in compliance with the Crown quality management system (QMS) inclusive of all Purchasing specific policies and procedures. Work with Quality, Inspection, Service, Manufacturing, Engineering and the Suppliers to eradicate existing part problems and supply risks long term. Identify and ensure adequate resources and focus is applied to supplier development needs. Lead supplier development activities and the review of results. Review drawings, specifications, inspection requirements and qualification documents in an effort to develop a CPPAS. Lead a cross functional team comprised of Quality, Inspection, Service, Manufacturing, Engineering and the Suppliers to follow through and complete a CPPAS on time. Execute product change requests (PCR’s), temporary deviation notices (TDN’s) and engineering orders (EO’s) in a timely manner to support phase in/out effectivity dates and minimize impact on inventory or on time delivery performance.
Prepare and plan for all key negotiations with suppliers. Negotiations for Price, Payment Terms, Legal Terms, Statements of Work, Levels of Effort, Costs, Technical Specifications, Logistics, Risk Sharing, Warranty, Services, Letters of Intent, Memorandum’s of Understanding and Contracts are all required activities. Obtain results within the boundaries of fair and ethical business practices. Keep current complete and accurate pricing data in BAAN. Eradicate invoice problems and insure all discrepancies are corrected in a timely manner and that the true root cause has been corrected. Provide written cause and actions for all supplier price variances.
Lead the Supply Chain Integration effort. Identify suitable candidate suppliers and obtain approval. Establish cross functional teams, work with Quality, Manufacturing, Service, Accounting, Tactical Purchasing, Engineering and the suppliers to define optimal replenishment strategies for each purchased item. Follow a standard implementation methodology and insure smooth implementation and follow through to achieve increased turns, flexibility and reduced inventory.
Attend department, staff and management meetings. Initiate and lead meetings to discuss sourcing, supplier performance and qualification status. Prepare periodic reports as needed to inform management of geo political, market, supply base or product change risks. Attend Supply Management related continuing education classes/seminars. Perform other duties as assigned.
- A four year college degree, preferably in Business or Engineering with an emphasis in Supply Management or Operations, with five to eight years experience in Materials, Supply Management, or Operations. A high level of interpersonal, leadership, teamwork and negotiation skills are required. Blueprint reading and proficient computer skills are necessary for this position. Manufacturing Engineering or other technical experience is desirable. Ability to travel extensively on sourcing trips may be required at certain intervals.
