Development and optimization of synthetic routes for preparation of final compounds and intermediates demonstrated in mg’s to 250 g scale and suitably for their potential scale-up to 500 g-2 kg by external partners (through tech-transfer of the developed methods).
Synthesis of key intermediates in 20-500 g scale.
Synthesis and rapid delivery of key final compounds in 5-500 g scale with the required purity and with very tight timelines.
Set-up/build/maintain appropriate experimental equipment to accomplish project goals, including pressure equipment such as autoclaves, flow chemistry equipment, typical laboratory glassware, etc.
Rapidly identification of optimal reaction conditions via parallel screening or use of flow equipment.
Regular evaluation of chemical safety and hazards of synthetic transformations that eventually may be scaled-up.
Work with several computer systems to collect and maintain data – e.g. eLN, analytical data, Microsoft office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), safety evaluations
Maintain chemical stock including solvents, gases, chemicals and catalysts. Assist in lab upkeep including: clean lab and lab reactors, used catalyst pick up, waste drum disposal, etc.
Accurately communicate results via eLN, reports and presentations.
Take appropriate steps to protect Lilly’s intellectual property.
Degree in Chemistry, preferably with demonstrated experience in organic synthesis and synthetic methodology, either in pharmaceutical or chemical industry.
Ability to execute a variety of organic reactions and working knowledge of synthetic chemistry optimization, reaction parameters control, work-up, and purification methods of multi-gram preparation of organic compounds.
Working knowledge of modern synthetic chemistry methodologies, experimental work, analytical techniques, isolation, purification techniques and structural analysis of synthetic organic molecules.
General knowledge of reaction mechanisms & thermodynamics and experience in the assessment of chemical safety and hazards of synthetic transformations.
Ability to maintain current literature awareness of chemical transformations.
Attention to detail and ability to record observations accurately.
Mechanical aptitude – ability to take apart and (re)build lab equipment such as pressure reactors/systems and flow chemistry equipment.
Ability to efficiently search the chemical literature; familiarity with SciFinder and/or Reaxys
Previous experience running pressure reactions and/or flow systems.
Knowledge of pressure fittings.
Ability to prioritize work appropriately to progress multiple projects simultaneously under flexible project goals.
